Gun-slinger Tommy ready
TOMMY Morrison, the American contender for the World Boxing Organisation heavyweight title fight to be held in the territory in October, is preparing in the best possible way for the bout, dubbed 'High Noon in Hong Kong' by promoters.
Morrison is currently part of a Hollywood motion picture production - cast as a gunslinger. Highly appropriate for the High Noon showdown on October 23 at the Hong Kong Stadium, when he takes on British champion Herbie Hide in the multi-million dollar extravaganza.
'I play the role of an outlaw. It is my first film since I starred in Rocky V back in 1990,' said Morrison yesterday.
Wearing dark shades and sporting a T-shirt which boasted on the back 'spend some time in my bed', Morrison looked the part of the boxer, and not a gun-fighter, when he arrived last night at Kai Tak airport, accompanied by international boxing promoter John Daly.
'It is the first time that I have ever travelled abroad. I know absolutely nothing about Hong Kong, but I have heard it is a great place,' said the 25-year-old Morrison.
Coming from Oklahoma ('a small town outside Tulsa'), Morrison is the nephew of the legendary John Wayne. Thus it comes as no surprise when he said he wanted to devote lots of time to his Hollywood career.
