TRIADS have been pressuring top Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong Chau-sang to take roles against his will, according to police.
The movie star, who won Best Actor in April this year for Category III film The Untold Story, complained to police after he was harassed by suspected triads aiming to secure his services.
The harassment ceased only when Wong complained to the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau's taskforce investigating links between the film and entertainment industry and organised crime.
''He was approached by people who he believed were using unorthodox means to secure contracts with him,'' said taskforce Superintendent Philip Choy Kin-cheung.
Wong won the top acting award at the Hong Kong Film Awards earlier this year for his portrayal of Macau serial killer who murdered eight people and served them as dim sum.
Mr Choy said Wong approached the taskforce a month ago.
There have been suggestions that the taskforce, which offers a point of contact to film industry members and conducts interviews at secret locations, may disband.
