A MAID bled to death after giving birth to a full-term baby boy in the toilet of her employer's home, the Coroner's Court heard yesterday.
Nancy Jugal, 34, who came to Hong Kong 11 years ago to work as a domestic helper, was found lying in a pool of blood at a flat in Kin Wah Street, North Point. She was married and had a four-year-old daughter in the Philippines.
Only a month before, she had started work for merchant Wong Kwok-lam and his wife Cheung Sue-seung.
The couple said they were unaware that Jugal, who always wore loose garments, was pregnant.
Mr Wong testified he seldom saw Jugal as he always left home early and returned late. Ms Cheung said she had been out of town three times during Jugal's spell of employment.
Mr Wong said that on February 15 he woke his wife when he heard strange noises coming from the toilet at about 10.30 am. They found Jugal lying beside the toilet bowl.
