THE director of the Shenzhen Port Authority, Wu Xianji, will address a lunch meeting of the Hong Kong Shippers' Council (HKSC) at the New World Harbour View Hotel tomorrow. Mr Wu will speak on the ports of Shenzhen under modern management. He has long been associated with the development and management of Shenzhen's ports. As the first director of the Shenzhen Port Authority, he was instrumental in reforming Shenzhen's ports and bringing their management into line with international practices, according to HKSC chairman Chan Wing-kee. With Hong Kong's port rapidly reaching capacity, many shippers and shipping companies from the territory are exploring the possibility of using the ports of Shenzhen, including Shekou and Yantian, to move their cargoes, said Mr Chan. 'It follows that the legal and administrative system under which these ports operate are issues of great concern to Hong Kong users.'
