A RECRUITMENT drive to get more members after many had migrated abroad has boosted the membership of the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) by 50 per cent.

The public relations manager for the HKMA, Wing Leung, said the association now had a record 9,000 signed-up members, 'while, two years ago, there were only 6,000. It is really wonderful'.

He attributed the increase partly to the recruitment campaign, in which leaflets and membership forms were distributed at seminars and business exhibitions, and partly to the fact that some Hong Kong business people were now returning to the territory after several years abroad.

'It is a miracle, even in Hong Kong, to have been so successful.' The key aim of the HKMA is to develop new management potential, particularly in the run up to 1997.

To achieve this, the association organises conferences, training seminars and lunches, giving members the chance to discuss the latest management and business issues. Not only can they learn through the formal channels, but the occasions allow valuable networking and the exchange of ideas between members.

There are eight categories of HKMA membership, three of which are by invitation only.
