TWO women who braved the flames of a burning apartment to save the life of a neighbour were yesterday presented with an award.

When a massive liquefied petroleum gas explosion caused a neighbouring flat to burst into flames and while most of the tenants were fleeing for their lives, Tsang Tong Lai-ping and her neighbour, Choi Kwok Lai-fong, braved the flames and risked their lives to save a woman seriously injured in the blast.

Mrs Tsang and Mrs Choi were awarded special commendations from the fire brigade for their efforts.

The two women said they never thought twice about their own safety.

'I first heard a loud noise and then felt the building shaking,' Mrs Tsang said.

She said she then heard the woman screaming and rushed into the flat to rescue her.
