THE article headlined, 'Faster demolition method faces ban' (South China Morning Post, September 15), contained two inaccuracies attributed to me.
I did not say that an excavator contributed to the accident on the demolition site in Nathan Road, nor did I say that the Government might ban top-down demolition.
At the Legco Panel on Lands and Works on September 14, I did say: That the Buildings Department had not yet completed its investigation into the incident and its causes; That in the interim, all authorised persons responsible for demolition work had been asked to report their site supervision arrangements and examine their method and sequence of demolition.
As stated by the Director of Buildings repeatedly, the Buildings Department will forthwith step up monitoring of all demolition sites.
We will see that the guidance in our Practice Note for Authorised Persons and Registered Structural Engineers governing demolition works is followed.
We will also review this again to see if it can be further improved.
