THREE friends were killed in a car crash after accepting a lift home from work with a colleague, Tsuen Wan Court heard yesterday.
Barman Wong King-yiu, 20, who pleaded not guilty to causing death by reckless driving, was convicted of a lesser count of careless driving.
Magistrate Peter Line fined Wong $4,000 and disqualified him from driving until he passed another driving test.
The court was told Wong was giving a lift to his colleagues after they all finished work at a pub in Castle Peak Road.
Prosecutor Chan Hon-wing said Wong was driving at 80 km/h in a 50 km/h zone in Castle Peak Road at 6.10 am on October 18 last year.
Wong, who was driving a Nissan car from Tsing Lung Tau to Tuen Mun, reach-ed a left bend near Hong Kong Garden. The car went out of control and skidded into the opposite lane despite Wong braking hard.
