A SENIOR purser with Cathay Pacific downed a considerable amount of whisky and plunged to her death from a 21st-floor flat after an argument with her boyfriend.

  Evidence called by coroner's officer Michael Holmes yesterday revealed that Mayumi Senoo, 27, was found lying dead on the first-floor podium of Yu Lam Court at Lucky Plaza, Sha Tin, on the morning of February 22.

  A jury - sitting before Coroner Ian Carlson - returned a verdict of accidental death on Senoo, who died of multiple injuries.

  It was believed that Senoo, who was not an experienced drinker, had been sick after consuming alcohol the previous night.

  Mr Carlson said Senoo could have lost her balance and fallen to her death from a window which had been left open in her bedroom.

  Police Senior Inspector Guy Cooper described Senoo's relationship with her boyfriend Johnson Wong Cheung, 25, a steward with the airline, as 'stormy'.

  Despite various fights and arguments, the pair had remained together.

  Following yesterday's hearing, Mr Wong broke down in tears inside the courtroom.

  Earlier, he testified that he first met Senoo on his first flight four years ago.

  Senoo, from Japan, became his girlfriend in February 1992 and she started renting his mother's flat with another woman at Lucky Plaza 15 months later.

  The court heard Senoo had 'Cheung' tattooed on her left hip.

  Since her flatmate left for America in September last year, she had lived alone in the flat.

  Mr Wong said Senoo rang him up at his To Kwa Wan flat at midnight on February 21, shortly after he returned from Tokyo.

  The pair allegedly had a dispute about love affairs, but Mr Wong promised to see her the following day.

  Senoo was said to have been upset on learning from Mr Wong that her former boyfriend had a new girlfriend in Japan.

  But Mr Wong said: 'It was not a big deal at all for her.'   At about 9.15 am on February 22, Mr Wong phoned Senoo but found the line was engaged.

  He said he 'could not believe' what had happened when he was informed by police 15 minutes later that someone had fallen from a window of the Sha Tin flat.

  He rushed to the scene where police forced entry to the flat after finding the wooden door was chained from inside.

  Upon entry, police found an empty bottle of whisky in the sitting room, a valentine card and a hanging telephone handset. Vomit was found near the window sills, on the bed and on the floor.
