Sally, the only Hong Kong junior girl player able to give local ace Rebecca Chiu Wing-yin a serious challenge on the court, left the territory more than a year ago.

However, her name was on the list of triallists for the Asian tournament, along with six boys and six other girls who will have to undergo a vigorous training programme starting next month.

Assistant national coach Tony Choi Yuk-kwan said: 'Sally will not be joining squad training for the time being as she is in New Zealand. But she will be back for Christmas and join the squad then.

'She will participate in the selection trials and stay on in Hong Kong until after the tournament, which will be held from January 18 to 29.' Heading the girls' team is Rebecca. The other squad members are Eva Yam Wai-yue, Angel Choi Chung-yin, Christina Mak Lai-ying, Dodo Kwong Wai-ngar and Mandy Ng Yik-man.
