DOUR West Coast coach Michael Malthouse yesterday had spies from rival AFL side Melbourne ejected from an Eagles training session in Perth.

Demons football manager Richard Griffiths and chairman of selectors Greg Wells sat in the stands to observe the opposition's lock-out practice session before today's preliminary final at the WACA.

However, they were spotted after 10 minutes and evicted by West Coast selector Tim Gepp.

'We've had it [a closed training session] for two months and it will run right through the finals as long as I'm coach,' Malthouse said.

'If they want to play games, childish games, that's up to them.' To ensure the public and media could not see on to the ground, a large sheet was placed across a walk-through under the stands to prevent viewing.

Malthouse also said key defender Ashley McIntosh, who was left out of the named side on Thursday because of injury, had surprised him at training.

With an abundance of talent available, Geelong had to axe brilliant rookie Aaron Lord and wily veteran Tim Darcy for the Cats' preliminary final clash at the MCG today against North Melbourne.
