THIS year's Asian IT Expo is by no means totally focused on English-language products and technologies.
One company, Apulse Technical Communication (ATC), produces Chinese terminal products for use with IBM mainframe and mid-size systems. These will be on display at their pavilion.
Based on research done originally at United States-based company Memorex Telix, which made a move to cut off its research and development department, ATC's products follow their design while changing it enough to support a wider range of accessories including broader printer support.
Two styles of terminal products are available from ATC: stand-alone dumb terminals without a hard disk drive, and a card which can be used in most standard personal computers.
According to Charles Ngai, ATC's business development manager in Hong Kong, the dumb terminal approach may seem primitive, but it provides other benefits.
'It is more primitive, but security is better and the resolution is better because it is dedicated [to one task],' he said.
