The betting centres in Dongguan were equipped with televisions for live broadcasts of races.

Punters were given free 'form' for each horse.

A total of 59 people were arrested in the raids with the seizure of more than $200,000 in cash and a total of eight television sets, according to reports reaching Hong Kong from Guangzhou yesterday.

Three mobile telephones were seized and it was not immediately known whether they could be used to make calls in order to place bets in Hong Kong.
