A TOURIST charged with stealing a $1.9 million diamond from an exhibition was further remanded in police custody by Eastern Court yesterday.
Magistrate Jonathan Acton-Bond was surprised that Daizo Hirose, who was accused of swallowing the stone, had had only one bowel movement since his arrest on September 20.
'His constipation may be a reflection of the prison food,' said the magistrate.
Hirose, 39, is charged with theft after a gem went missing from a counter at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Senior Inspector Chau Chung-mun said three X-rays had been taken of the Japanese tourist on consecutive days after his arrest. A foreign object showed up in his stomach and intestines.
But the X-ray taken on September 24 showed nothing. Hirose moved his bowels for the first time that day.
