MANY Hong Kong people enjoy spending the Mid-Autumn Festival at Victoria Park. This tradition allows friends and families to gather together to spend the night eating mooncakes and lighting lanterns.
I am sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. But as the people began to leave, the trash began to arrive. As I watched the news on Wednesday morning, I was quite shocked to see the huge amount of trash left behind from the people who were there the previous night. The soccer playgrounds were half covered in all sorts of refuse, from mooncake wrappers to paper lanterns. Several workers could also be seen cleaning up the park, trying to make it a more pleasing environment for the morning joggers. Many elderly people go to the park every morning to get some fresh air, but on the morning of September 21, it was not possible.
The Government of Singapore has already enforced various laws regarding the disposal of trash by members of the public. I think it works quite well. The question is can the Hong Kong Government do something about our trash problem? PATRICK SIN Causeway Bay
