RELATIVES of victims of the Nathan Road building collapse yesterday criticised the Government for taking too long to complete the investigation.

They said compensation had been delayed, leaving them in financial difficulty.

Families of the four men and two women who were crushed to death under concrete which collapsed onto Nathan Road early last month petitioned the Legislative Council, calling for early release of the report on the tragedy.

Yim Wai-ho, younger brother of Yim Wai-leung, 52, who was killed, said families had been waiting for almost a month for reasons for the accident.

'[We still] do not know who was responsible for the tragedy and who should compensate us,' he said. 'Some of us had our breadwinners killed.' Wong Chor-fan, whose father Wong Chun, 58, died in the accident, said he had not gone to work since the collapse because he had been busy looking after the funeral and the compensation claim.

The petitioners were received by legislators Wong Yu-hong and Tang Siu-tong. Mr Wong Yu-hong said they would pass the message to government departments.
