AGREAT show of enthusiasm on the part of the juniors helped make CCC Mong Man Wai College's annual swimming gala a tremendous success.
At the prize-presentation, organiser Kwong Wing-cheung said: 'It is encouraging to see junior students joining in so heartily. Almost 70 per cent of the contestants were lower-form students.' School principal Ip Shun-tak said: 'I was glad that over 140 students took part in the gala. The students gave the swimmers great support. I was particularly impressed by the cheerers for Legge and Tsae Ko Houses.' The highlight of the day was the invitation relay, in which the winning team was the old boys' squad headed by Jason Chan Kai-yue, who had an impressive reign in his school days as overall champion for six successive years.
Jason, 20, attributed their success to teamwork and dedication.
'We have a very strong sense of belonging to our school. We enjoy being involved in our mother school's activities,' he said.
Jason is a first year student at the City Polytechnic, studying Public Administration. He said consistent hard work was the secret of success.
'I learned swimming by myself. I have tried to improve my swimming skills by reading books and watching video tapes.' Jason has won several awards in inter-school swimming meets. He said support from schoolmates and teachers was also a source of strength.
