The newspaper publishing company disclosed the information under a litigation note in a circular to shareholders disclosing the acquisition of property in London.

The group said that in September, wholly-owned subsidiary Oriental Press Group Human Resources was served a writ of summons from a company providing the services relating to the post of chief editor for the Eastern Express.

The plaintiff claimed damages for wrongful termination of the contract, the amount of which was not quantified.

But the circular disclosed that 'in the original letter of demand, the plaintiff asked for $4.139 million which the [OPG] subsidiary rejected'.

Oriental Press Group said it had acknowledged service of the writ and had instructed its solicitors to contest the proceeding.
