I SUPPORT the views expressed by Dr Paul Yip in his letter headlined, 'Bird-brained plans for Mai Po wetlands' (South China Morning Post, October 4). Dr Yip said man's evolution and modernisation has reached a stage of destruction. Society has driven people away from their natural instincts. People no longer consider the benefits nature offers. Wealth and power has made people ignorant of the biological world. People now work for material benefits, and not for the well-being of themselves and of others. The fact is, the world is coming to its end. We have only two choices, either terminate the world, or prolong the existence of man. I don't want to sound like an environmentalist, but it is only through environmental awareness that the world can be preserved. Living on comfort does not necessarily mean living on the 44th floor of a building with a spectacular view. It can mean living in a small shack surrounded by flowers in a peaceful environment.
