The award is aimed at promoting the interests of non-smokers in restaurants and encouraging Hong Kong restaurant owners to provide non-smoking areas for their customers.

'Going non-smoking hasn't harmed our business. Even our customers who smoke say they prefer a non-smoking policy. Because our restaurants are smoke-free, they have become a favourite place for families to come and eat,' Pizza Hut (Hong Kong) chief executive Y.K. Pang said.

'The reaction from our employees is also positive, and since the policy began, a number of our staff who used to smoke have given up the habit,' he added.

Previous recipients of the award included McDonald's Restaurants (Hong Kong), the Man Ho Restaurant at the Marriott Hotel, and the Satay King chain of restaurants.
