HP unveils workgroup A3 printer

FOLLOWING close on the heels of the mid-September release of its new Color LaserJet, Hewlett-Packard has announced new mid-range monochrome workgroup laser printers as well as additions to its ScanJet scanner line.

The new HP LaserJet 4V and HP LaserJet 4MV are 600 dots per inch laser printers which support up to A3 size paper and can print at speeds of up to 16 pages per minute for letter-size and A4 paper.

Priced at HK$20,430 for the 4V and $29,680 for the 4MV, the new printers are positioned between the 4 Plus at the low-end and the 4Si and the 4Si MX at the high-end.

The 4V comes with PCL 5 and four MB of memory while the 4MV is a network-ready model with more memory, PostScript Level 2 and a JetDirect card which provides Ethernet and LocalTalk connectivity.

Both printers provide double-byte font support which, according to the company, is the first time they have released a printer with double-byte support to be sold outside Japan.

At the same time, HP has launched a new greyscale scanner, the ScanJet 3P which has a smaller footprint than its predecessor.
