Model show of resentment
I REFER to the article, 'The tyranny of thinness' (South China Morning Post, October 11) which I found quite unreasonable. I do not think that most models are unattractively thin and I feel the article was being unfair.
Some supermodels like Helena Christiansen, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer may be tall and slim but they certainly don't look emaciated. They are actually relatively curvaceous and are simply beautiful women. The models shown in magazines are of all shapes and sizes, they don't have cellulite hanging off them and are basically 'the average girl'.
It really irritates me to hear people insulting models just because they are slim and attractive. Being slim happens to be the fashion these days and trends do change.
If fat, ugly women can't bear to look at these beautiful women and just write them off as being anorexic or unhealthy they are simply jealous and should just not look. There are a few emaciated looking models but they are in the minority. How are companies expected to sell products with fat women advertising them. If people want to go on diets then that is their problem.
I am relatively large and my boyfriend loves me just the same and the pictures of these slim women are actually quite pleasing to see as they are so gorgeous, which is unusual. As for the shape of mannequins, the majority of Chinese women are this shape, if not thinner and I don't think they're infertile. People are causing problems for themselves and just want fat models in order to feel content with themselves.
Some models are actually quite large like Anna-Nicole Smith. If people complain like this they're only envious of these beautiful women.
