FELIXSTOWE, Hutchison Whampoa's wholly owned British freight and transport terminal and Britain's largest container port, has revealed strong profit growth.
The port said it made a profit of GBP23.39 million (about HK$291.06 million) last year.
According to accounts filed at Britain's Companies House, which are not made available in Hutchison's group results, pre-tax profits rose 14 per cent from GBP20.49 million, on turnover up 2.5 per cent at GBP106.81 million.
Of this, GBP66,000 of government grants was booked as revenue, out of GBP569,000 of grants received by the port to date.
Canning Fok, chairman of the port company, reported continued growth in all the different areas of the business, which had been reflected in a seven per cent increase in container volumes to 1.6 million 20-foot equivalent units.
He said he was hoping to see further expansion of the port's container handling capability through the Trinity III development.
