HONG KONG'S main political parties are being challenged to set out their platforms for business and industry to an audience of business leaders next month.
Allen Lee of the Liberal Party, Martin Lee of the Democratic Party and Tsang Yok-sing of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong are among the key speakers at a conference organised by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by the South China Morning Post.
The conference is billed as the Hong Kong Business Summit '94, and is planned as the first of an annual series which will address major business concerns.
Joining the politicians will be leading figures from the financial sector, who will address the problems and opportunities facing the territory and its role in the light of the increasing sophistication of Shanghai and the growing ambitions of other regional financial centres.
Speakers on this subject will be Securities and Futures Commission chairman Robert Nottle, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp executive director Paul Selway-Swift and Sun Hung Kai chairman Tony Fung.
The conference will also be used to present a series of forecasts for the major sectors of the economy next year, as well as a review of events this year.
