Competition to grow next year

Next Digital

NEXT year's Corporate Games will be bigger and better, according to the organising committee chairman Boyce Hung.

But he warned hongs wishing to take part to remember to register early or they would miss the chance to take part.

'So many companies contacted us too late and missed the deadline for registration this year,' Mr Hung said.

'I do not think they will make the same mistake again. I expect a tremendous increase in the number of companies taking part.' He said he expected 250 companies would be involved next year, compared with 201 this year and 161 last year.

He said up to 12,000 employees would be taking part in 1995, compared with 9,000 this year.

'We will probably have more than 18 different competitions next year,' Mr Hung said.

Every year, new activities are introduced into the Corporate Games - just as they are in the Olympics.

New competitions this year were chess, darts and a water carnival. Next year, beach volleyball was likely to be among the activities, he said.

This year, the number of entries was so high that a ballot system had to be introduced to reduce the number of participants in some sports and activities.

Urban Council spokesman Angela Sin said it was not surprising the games were so popular.

'Companies can register their staff for just $5,000, which is not very expensive when you think of all the fun the employees have,' she said.

There is an additional charge of $300 for each event.

The organising committee will be sitting down at the end of this month to start planning the 1995 competition.

It is likely to be staged later next year - between September and December.

The deadline for entries will be June. Details can be obtained from the Regional Council's festival office.
