BRENNAN Leung Chun-yin would find a Diners Club card very useful. He could chew it, for instance. Or he could show it off at kindergarten.

Brennan is four. But that didn't stop Diners Club sending him a pre-approved acceptance form for a Diners Club card, which in theory means they've already checked him out and he qualifies.

'No income proof needed. Priority processing - we'll send you your Diners Club card in just three working days.' said the letter which made it pretty clear that his eligibility was assured.

The root cause of this madness is that young Brennan has somehow got enrolled in the NorthWest Airlines airmiles programme.

As well as a Diners Club card, he's been offered a wide range of services that would be of limited use to a four-year old, like free use of the executive lounge in far-flung airports, where the staff would be less than impressed at being asked to read a story.

Still, getting a Diners Club card meant a load of extra airmiles, so his mum Laurie filled the registration form in: income, none; other cards or credit facilities, none; level of education, kindergarten.
