A TRANSPORT worker was part of a gang which held up customers and staff at five karaoke lounges at knifepoint during a 17-day robbery spree, the High Court heard yesterday.

Chu Chi-man, 21, denies being part of a gang which netted more than $155,000 in cash, jewellery and valuables from karaoke bars between December 23, 1992 and January 8, 1993.

The gang allegedly robbed three hair salons between January and April 1993, netting $50,000.

Chu has denied eight counts of robbery and five of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutor John McMaster said the gang posed as customers, then produced beef knives. Two robbers will testify against Chu.
