LAUDA Air is expanding its Hong Kong operation next month with the introduction of a second direct flight to Vienna.

The new service was doubling in frequency in anticipation of growing passenger demand, Derek Jewson, Lauda's commercial director, said.

The new mid-week service will leave Hong Kong on Wednesday and arrive in Vienna on Thursday.

As Lauda has stopover rights in Bangkok, passengers can also enjoy a brief stay in Thailand en route, resuming the journey to Europe aboard the existing weekend flight.

Mr Jewson said: 'The start of a second flight comes after extended negotiations with local government and coincides with increased trading activity between southern China and central Europe.

'As new trading links are forged between the former eastern bloc countries and southern China, Lauda Air is looking to offer business and leisure travellers greater choice and flexibility of schedules between the two areas.' The move to boost Asian flights is part of Lauda's long-term strategy to expand both its European and worldwide network.

Earlier this year, in conjunction with Lufthansa, Lauda expanded its inter-European connections with the introduction of 50-seater Canadair 100 ER regional jets serving seven European cities from Vienna.
