Arts petition move
MEMBERS of the arts and film industries came out in force yesterday to start a signature campaign demanding elected membership of the Arts Development Council.
Ten arts associations got together to launch the petition, which they feel will show the Government that the local arts community is unanimous in its push for some form of elected membership.
The group includes members from the Hong Kong Cultural Sector Joint Conference, the Film Director's Guild and the Federation of Writers and Artists.
Vicki Ooi, petition co-ordinator and chairman of the International Association of Theatre Critics, said the group was seeking about 2,000 signatures for its demands.
The arts community's pleas have landed on deaf ears and the petition was the only other option, Ms Ooi said.
'We want to show . . . the arts community has strong feelings about this issue and we will be getting signatures from people representing a wide body of organisations,' she said.
