BOXING fans will get a full refund of the money they paid for the failed High Noon in Hong Kong tournament.

Payments will be made at the Hong Kong Stadium for a week from November 5.

A spokesman for the tournament promoters Hemdale said the delay in announcing the arrangements had been due to the need to set up an escrow account to hold the ticket money and establish lists of the tickets to be refunded.

Complimentary tickets will not be compensated.

Ticket holders have a week in which to claim their refund, and must present their original ticket and either an identity card or their passport.

Consumer Council chief complainant adviser Chan Wing-kai said fewer than 10 complaints had been received, which was less than the council expected.

Another council spokesman said: 'We will wait a few more days to see whether the organisers are really arranging a refund or not.

'Otherwise we will get the complainants to maybe telephone the police and see if they can do anything.' It emerged yesterday that the company in charge of ticket sales is run by a former employee of Kingly Commodities, which was shut down in March 1993 after mishandling $27 million of client investments.

Andrew Lunt, the former general sales manager for Kingly Commodities, now heads Voltaire which was responsible for finding a financing partner for tournament promoter Hemdale.

It also took responsibility for ticket arrangements and brought in Answerplus Ticketing as the sales outlet.

Mr Lunt said his role in Kingly Commodities had no relevance to his new business ventures or the boxing match.

Mr Lunt said he had no role in the activities that led to the closure of Kingley Commodities following an investigation by the Securities and Futures Commission into the way it handled clients' investments which were destined for Manila futures.
