Many exhibits were limited editions, appearing publicly only on special occasions.

But lawyer Rupert Spicer treats his 1954 Bentley in a fashion sure to horrify the purists. 'It is my only car so I use it like anyone else would,' he said.

'During the social season I use it every day. I've moved furniture in it - you can fit two or three chairs in the back.' But for buyers looking to make a statement there was only one place to be - Repulse Bay, where Ferrari unveiled its latest model, the F355 GTS.

The red streak accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. And the cost? At least $2 million.
