NOT wanting to miss out on the fun, Keeping Posted joined thousands of local punters tuned in to the Melbourne Cup via RTHK who in turn were hooked up with Radio Australia. We were quite amused by the roving reporter circulating the grandstand who was practically beside himself as he described the number of people who were sipping champers - or 'shipping sampers' as he spilled it out in his awe-stricken state. Alas, his bubbly enthusiasm wouldn't have cut much ice in Hong Kong where champagne is served up as a matter of routine. Why, we recall one occasion where we asked the waiter for orange juice and got the reply: 'Sorry, sir, no more orange juice. Will champagne do instead?' Fittingly, the Aussie broadcasters held a studio discussion on 'responsible gambling' just before the race. Good on yer, cobbers!
