THE star of former Hong Kong television personality Sabrina Farley - until recently a presenter on Sky TV in Britain - is in the ascendant. And guess who's claiming the credit for it? Step forward, please, marketing guru Ted Thomas, who has been telling anyone who cares to listen at the Bowling Alley Bar in the Hong Kong Club that Sabrina went to London some years back 'as my protegee'. That being the case, Sabrina - former wife of one-time Commercial Radio jock Ashton Farley - followed in the footsteps of Anneka Rice, who is very much the current flavour on British TV. Anneka, too, left our shores for the bright lights of London as a 'protegee' of Thomas. And - like Sabrina - made her home in the first few months in Thomas' comfortable pad in Covent Garden where, to Thomas' eternal gratitude, Anneka's mum used her spare time to give the place a much needed lick of paint. Word is that Sabrina is working on a major 'news features format' show for one of Britain's top independent stations that will propel her to the big league. In an interview with Hello - the favourite magazine of the British royal family - Sabrina is quoted as saying: 'I want to branch away from hard news, which is always negative and can be very distressing.' And Thomas notwithstanding, she also claims that she left Hong Kong because she wanted to 'test my skills in a competitive environment'. So it must have been in his role as a talent scout for British television that we spotted Thomas taking tea the other afternoon with Anglo-Chinese starlet Cleo Yuen Yee, who is currently doing freelance TV and film work. That being the case, then the Thomas pied-a-terre in Covent Garden surely beckons for Cleo.
