Enjoy a fun day and help the disabled

Benson Chao

IF YOU are wondering what to do this Sunday, why not enjoy a charity fun day, organised by the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong? Visitors can go on a charity walk, take pictures with cute dogs and stunning Harley Davidson motorbikes, enjoy a snack, buy handicrafts and have lots of fun.

The money raised from these activities will go to the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADA). The association conducts programmes to help the disabled to learn how to integrate and function in society through participation in art.

'We believe art is not for the elite and the able only, but also for the disabled who can learn and use art to train themselves to be a useful members of society,' said Ms Grace Kwan Pui-yan, ADA spokesman.

'After the fun day, a training fund will be set up to sponsor art performance and training programmes for disabled groups. Individual disabled persons can also apply to the fund to take up art courses.' The charity walk will start at the roundabout of the City Polytechnic campus in Tat Chee Avenue (near the Kowloon Tong MTR station). The route circles the Kowloon Tong campus.

There will be a bazaar with three game stalls, stalls selling handicrafts made by disabled artists, and food stalls offering ice-cream, muffins and cookies.

The other attractions are the three photo stalls where children can pose for photos with well-bred dogs, a range of 'hogs' (as Harley Davidson motorbikes are called), and the hosts of the ATV programme, Kindergarten Kids.

The fun day is part of the Polytechnic's 10th anniversary celebrations. For details about the charity walk, call 788-8524.
