Moving to greater heights
IT was a historic moment for staff and students of Hong Kong True Light College when the foundation stone for the new school premises in Ap Lei Chau was laid on October 29.
Construction work on the new premises is due to be finished in March 1995, when the college, now situated in Caine Road, moves to its new address in Lei Tung Estate Road at Ap Lei Chau.
Director of Education Dominic Wong Shing-wah presided at the foundation stone-laying ceremony.
Principal Tao Chee-ying said: 'We started applying for new premises in 1982. Since many of our students live in Central, Western and Southern districts, Ap Lei Chau should be a good choice for a new home.
She said the move was necessary as the school had to put up with many inconveniences at Caine Road when the school was reconstructed from the True Light Primary School of Hong Kong.
'To list a few of the setbacks, there is no home economics room, no music room, no art room, no gymnasium, and not enough classrooms,' Ms Tao said.
