IT'S homecoming time for Hollywood's favourite Hong Konger, director John Woo, who has agreed to take on a potentially controversial mainland project.
Having made his name in Hong Kong, and then become the first Hong Kong director to helm a made-in-America movie (Hard Target, starring Belgian beefcake Jean Claude Van Damme), Woo has now agreed to act as producer of the latest film from Berlin Film Festival-winning Chinese director Wu Zinu (Evening Bell, Sparkling Fox).
The movie is a study of the Nanjing Massacre perpetrated by the Japanese during World War II. It gives Woo a chance to realise his long-held goal of making a war film about China, and should stimulate great interest in the international market place.
