SENIOR engineers in Hong Kong are some of the best paid in Asia.
But junior engineers receive less than their counterparts in Singapore and Taiwan, a survey revealed.
The report, commissioned by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), covered Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines and Shanghai, splitting the profession into four grades: engineering managers, engineering supervisors, engineers and junior engineers.
It showed engineering managers are the highest paid, receiving an annual salary of $460,000, while those in Singapore get $400,000 and Taiwan $360,000.
Those in the Philippines are the poor relation, receiving a paltry $135,000 a year.
In Singapore though, engineers and junior engineers are paid an average $60,000 more than those in Hong Kong, while those in Taiwan get just $20,000 more a year.
But this could change over the next two years as work on the airport reaches its peak.
