Families of each of the 87 workers who died in the November 19 blaze are eligible for 11,000 yuan (about HK$9,965). Hong Kong's Trico Industries Limited, responsible for taking orders for production in the factory, gave an extra 22,000 yuan.

Lo Chan Tak-ngan, wife of Trico director Lo Chiu-chuen, said the money was paid by the insurers.

'We have tried to do our best to complete our moral responsibilities. We lost more than HK$10 million in the fire,' Mrs Lo said.

For the 51 injured, compensation ranged from a few thousand yuan for minor injuries to 50,000 to 60,000 yuan for serious injuries.
