Mosse's star is rising at Valley
DESPITE a hefty impost, Tung Feng and Gerald Mosse should defy the handicapper and win the second race at Happy Valley tonight. Tung Feng is one of a number of chances the French star has on the second day of his Hong Kong stint and Tung Feng, a Class Four horse racing in lower company, will certainly be in the finish. Tung Feng was apprentice-ridden over the Sha Tin longer sprint at his seasonal debut and ran quite a fair race behind runaway winner Jay Ee Eight, who has since run another respectable race.
Since that early-season run trainer Lawrie Fownes has been busily keeping Tung Feng to the mark and he will strip fit enough to run out a very strong mile at the Valley. At the back end of last season Tung Feng went under by a quarter of a length to River Serein, course and distance, and looks reasonably well placed in this Class Five event despite the steadier of 139 pounds. In the 10-runner field there are a number with convictions and others who have not looked like striking a blow so far this season.
Successful Way must be conceded a major chance as he could have genuinely benefited from his first-up run, course and distance, under Darryll Holland who has the ride again tonight for trainer Gary Ng Ting-keung. Successful Way, however, must come from the wide outside barrier (10) which will not help his cause as it is easy to get caught wide in a helter-skelter mile event at the city course.
