THE son-in-law of patriarch Deng Xiaoping, Wu Jianchang, was officially confirmed yesterday as president of China National Nonferrous Metals Import and Export Corp (CNNM).

A Xinhua (New China News Agency) report said the State Council appointed Mr Wu as president of the company, replacing Fei Ziwen.

Married to Mr Deng's second daughter Deng Nan, Mr Wu is the second son-in-law of Mr Deng to reach the top position with a major Chinese company.

He Ping, the husband of Deng Rong, Mr Deng's third daughter, heads a number of corporations in China including Poly Technologies.

Deng Rong was in Hong Kong last month in her capacity as chairman of a real estate company in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Surpass Industry Corp.
