The 1.6-kilometre race has become a tradition in Hong Kong, with competitors racing up, over and down the 390-metre Nameless Hill in Sai Kung. From next year, the race will be held in Britain.

'There's always an element of sadness, but with the rundown of the British garrison this sort of thing is happening all the time,' said a forces spokesman.

The overall individual winner of the race was Rifleman Durga Angdembe, Unit A Company 3rd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles, with a time of 18 minutes.
