AT&T Global Information Solutions last week unveiled its family of communications-ready PCs which the company claims will merge computing with communications.
The firm said the new brand of computers makes future voice and visual hardware and software installations easier and cheaper to perform.
In addition, all of the Globalyst systems offer industry standard architecture (ISA) and/or PCI 'plug-and-play' capabilities that allow them to be easily connected to networks.
'We designed our Globalyst PCs with both computing and communications in mind because users today need more from their PCs than ever before,' said Certina Ma, PC manager at AT&T Global Information Solutions Asia-Pacific and China.
'The Globalyst is designed so that when users are ready they can easily add voice and visual capabilities. These PCs help people get more and use the information they need at home or in the office.' The new systems include the Globalyst 510, which comes with a 486SX 33-megahertz microprocessor, four megabytes of RAM, a 170-MB hard drive and a 3.5 inch floppy drive, besides the usual accessories such as a keyboard and mouse.
Designed as a micro footprint desktop, the machine is listed at US$1,123. This system, plus all the other Globalsyt systems, comes pre-loaded with MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows and can be expanded to make use of PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card Industry Association) devices.
