WHAT a kind-hearted soul is songstress Frances Yip.
She broke off from a series of engagements in Malaysia for one day to fly back to Hong Kong and emcee the charity gala dinner thrown by gallery owner Vincent Lee in aid of the Children's Cancer Foundation.
The glittering event at the Regent ballroom with the cream of society present was in marked contrast to one of Yip's concerts in Malaysia last week.
It was a sit-down vegetarian dinner in a community hall to raise funds for a Buddhist organisation.
Said Yip: 'When I got on stage I wondered why everybody seemed to be sitting down so low.
'I was later told that the reason for this was because the guests were sitting on little stools rather than chairs so that they could pack as many people into the hall as possible.'
