HONG KONG companies may not match the size of the Japanese giants, but they sure do pack a profit punch, according to the latest Asiaweek 1000 survey.
The listing, which ranks the top companies in the region, has thrown some light on how well we shape up to our regional counterparts.
Japanese companies retained their sumo like size, accounting for the first 30 positions measured by sales. But that did not translate into profits, with 18 of the top 20 biggest losers being Japanese companies.
By contrast, Hong Kong produced the most profitable place to do business in Asia.
Five of the top 15 most profitable Asian companies were from Hong Kong. Cheung Kong was the fifth most profitable company in the region with US$1.16 billion.
Sun Hung Kai, Henderson, and Hutchison also ranked in the top 15.
