BY PLAYING an important role in counselling students at schools, teachers exert tremendous influence on their overall development, according to the principal of Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Kwai Chung).

Speaking at the school's 11th speech day, Mr Tsang Kee-kung said the image of teachers was, therefore, of no less importance than that of students' pop idols.

'Teachers exert great influence on both their mental as well as physical development.

'The thoughts and tastes of the teachers cannot escape the eyes of students. A teacher with a healthy image will greatly influence his or her students,' said Mr Tsang, adding that to achieve this goal the school had implemented the 'whole-school approach' in counselling.

'Teachers have to deal with different kinds of juvenile problems under the scheme,' Mr Tsang.

Recognising the need to provide teachers with counselling skills and knowledge, the school regularly organised seminars for teachers.
