BIG-SCREEN BONUS

Audio-visual technology is giving corporate events the thrill of a theatrical performance or sporting occasion.

One piece of equipment - or rather a multitude of components - seen at many big events these days is the giant LED (light-emitting diode) screen, on which close-ups of a sporting action, performers or audience scenes are transmitted.

LED television walls have made their way into the meetings industry, with the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong the first hotel in the city to install the equipment for conferences and banquets, to product launches and weddings. Walls of LED screens can take the event to a stadium setting and provide more impressive visuals. Screens showing close-ups of golfers at the US PGA Championship, for instance, are usually made up of units the height of an average man and three to four metres wide. Depending on the size of screen wanted, blocks of LEDs are stacked high and wide.

'You can also use LED screens to cancel that dead air behind people speaking on stage, particularly when there is a break,' says Fion Fan, senior account manager at TG Events, the Kowloon Tong company that provided the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong with its LED screen.
