Who started it? Indonesian Azura Mangunhardjono and Swiss Mathias Hug launched the Pavitra jewellery label last year. Creative director Mangunhardjono manages each aspect of the creative process, from selecting the stones to designing each piece and overseeing craftsmanship. Hug is a gemologist with degrees in economics and fine arts and has studied at the Gemological Institute of America. He is responsible for running the business side of things, using his specialist knowledge of gems to ensure the stones used in Pavitra pieces will increase in value over time. The name Pavitra is derived from the Sanskrit word for 'pure'.
Why we love it: we're always fans of unusual pieces and love that each Pavitra design is unique. The precious and semi-precious gemstones used in the jewellery are also rare, with rubellite, Kashmir sapphires, Colombian emeralds and Golconda diamonds among those selected by Mangunhardjono. They have launched three collections. 'Belle du Jour' is characterised by the combination of semi-precious stones and small diamonds. 'Estate' is a more opulent range, with a vintage feel that features carved precious stones, such as rose cut diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. The 'Collectionneur' line is comprised of rare and untreated gemstones and high-quality pearls set in 18-carat gold or platinum.
What we would pick: from Belle du Jour, we like the topaz and sapphire ring (top left; HK$145,900). From the Estate line, we pick the carved ruby and diamond earrings (right; HK$54,600) and from the Collectionneur line, we like the simple multicoloured South Sea pearl necklace (top right; HK$694,200).
