Meet the Queen of England
Birth
Queen Elizabeth II was born in London on April 21, 1926. Her parents were Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI) and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. She had one younger sister, Margaret. Both girls were educated at home by their mother and a teacher.
Princess
Elizabeth was 10 when her grandfather, King George V, died. Her uncle Edward ascendded to the throne. Later that year Edward decided to marry a divorced woman. This meant he had to give up being king. Elizabeth's father became king. Elizabeth and Margaret became princesses.
Marriage
Princess Elizabeth was only 13 when she was writing letters to her future husband. They had met a few times. His title was Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark. They married in November, 1947, at Westminster Abbey. They are second cousins and third cousins.
