Fare rise disappointing

KMB and Long Win were 'very disappointed' they were only allowed to increase their bus fares by 3.6 per cent and 3.2 per cent, respectively, less than half of what they wanted. The increases come into effect on May 15. KMB said the increase in fuel prices led to a 10 per cent surge in operating costs.

Artists demand Ai's release

An art group is calling on Hongkongers to protest for the release of mainland artist Ai Weiwei this Saturday. As of yesterday, more than 250 people told Facebook that they would take part in the rally, organised by Art Citizens. The march will start from Sai Yeung Choi South St in Mong Kok at 3pm and finish at the Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.

School payments mix-up

The Education Bureau made a HK$10 million mix-up in payments to schools. It said 81 schools received the wrong amounts for 2008-2009. Now 35 schools will have to return up to HK$890,000, while 46 that were underpaid by up to HK$2.1 million get the money back.
