Woman, 86, killed by reversing truck

An 86-year-old woman was killed yesterday when she was run over by a reversing rubbish truck in a Kwun Tong cul-de-sac.

The 46-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He passed a breath test and was released on bail, but was told to report back to police at the end of the month.

The man was reversing into a garbage collection depot outside Tsui Tsz House on Tsui Ping (North) Estate at about 8.30am when the truck hit the woman.

'The truck had reversed for about 50 metres before colliding with the elderly woman,' a police officer said, adding that there was also a male passenger in the truck.

The officer said the woman, whose head was crushed, died instantly. Her walking stick, umbrella and a bag were left at the scene.
